Makerere World Library Day Celebrations 2018



The 24/7 Space, Main Library, Makerere University, Kampala Uganda


The World Library Day has been celebrated internationally in different parts of the World since 1897. In Uganda, the Library Day was first celebrated by Makerere University Library on 22nd May 2009. Since then, it has become an annual event.

This year’s celebrations will be held on Friday, 13th July 2018 in the 24/7 Space in the Main Library. The theme of the day will be
“Remodeled Library Services: Informed Societies”

This is in line with the annual theme of The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) the governing body of libraries “Transform Libraries, Transform Societies: Reaching out to the hard to reach".

The activities will include:

  • Exhibition: The library will showcase its services in the various sections
  • Reference
  • User education
  • Document Delivery Services
  • ICT services (OPAC, IR, E-resources, Current awareness and SDI)
  • Launching Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) at Makerere University by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB)
